Both of my parents are retired NYPD. They both chose that career because they wanted to serve and protect their community.
On September 11, 2001, they both received that tragic call that an attack had been struck upon our city, our home. With no hesitation, they answered. For days, my parents worked tirelessly and bravely, whilst they had no means of communicating with one another and no way of knowing if the other was even alive.
My family is one of the lucky ones, because my parents came home. So many families were not so lucky.
We can't change what happened, but we can always do our part to honor the lives that were lost; not just that day, but every day since.
I am running the Tunnel to Towers 5K in honor of my parents because I am forever proud to be their daughter.
Please consider donating, participating or volunteering and help spread the Tunnel to Towers founding message of "While we have time, let us do good."
