Twenty-four years ago, the ground beneath our feet tilted. We fell to our knees as our reality became a mirage and everything changed.
We felt loss on an unimaginable scale while in the cracks of our despair something new was growing, something that could not be broken by hate.
It started with the selfless acts of those helping one another within the destruction. It continued when our first responders ran into the danger. It moved forward with every simple act of kindness from a stranger.
It lives on in our hearts, the knowledge that in moments of crisis we are just human beings with the capacity to love.
We may have fallen but through the compassionate hands of another, we rose.
This is what we honor every day and we will never forget.
